Our concentration on insurance defense carries on a long tradition established back in 1947 when the firm was founded. From that initial small specialty practice, our Insurance Defense Practice has grown into a major segment of the firm's Litigation Department.

With more than 25 practitioners, the Insurance Defense Practice Group prides itself on fostering close and responsive working relationships with claims professionals and on our response time and judgment. Members of the practice stay current on emerging trends related to the insurance industry and on changing legal decisions and their application to the issues facing clients every day.

Devine Millimet has one of the largest and most diversified insurance defense practices in the region and represents more than 70 domestic and foreign insurers. Each attorney practices in one or more specific areas of insurance defense including: insurance coverage, workers' compensation, insurance regulation, bonding and suretyship, professional malpractice, uninsured motorist arbitration, architects and engineers, insurance agent and real estate broker errors and omissions, products liability, employment, government and environmental litigation, as well as more standard premises and automobile litigation.

Our attorneys practice before the New Hampshire Supreme Court and all New Hampshire trial courts and administrative agencies, including: the Insurance Department, the Department of Labor, the Human Rights Commission; the Board of Property Appeals and the Public Utilities Commission. Devine Millimet's trial lawyers are admitted to the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire and those with more than three years experience are members of the First Circuit Court of Appeals. Three of the firm's attorneys have argued cases in the Supreme Court of the United States. As a matter of policy, the firm encourages innovative modes of alternative dispute resolution. Devine Millimet attorneys regularly participate as panel members or advocates in court-sponsored and private mediation and mediation forums.

As part of a continuing effort to maintain personal contact and keep clients informed on developments that may affect their operations, members of the Insurance Defense Practice Group frequently lecture on the related issues surrounding the insurance industry.
