The Legislative and Government Affairs practice is unique within Devine Millimet. While our colleagues work at applying the law, we work at making the law.
Our top NH lobbyists boast decades of experience working in state and federal government, and so the work we do for our clients who need help in their dealings with the legislative and executive branches of New Hampshire government is based on first-hand knowledge of how that government works. With a 424-person legislature and both a governor and an executive council, New Hampshire is a state unlike any other, and our job is to guide our clients through the intricacies of that governmental environment.
Members of our lobbying team, recognized leaders in the state capital, represent clients in the areas of health care, utilities, business regulation, insurance, transportation, and religious institutions. We handle legislation, rulemaking, governmental contracts and procurements, administrative hearings, and licensure and regulatory matters.
To highlight just a few of the ground-breaking measures that we have drafted and successfully lobbied through to passage are bills that:
- Deregulated the telecom industry in New Hampshire
- Created a first-in-the nation right of action allowing long-term care facilities to recover funds from the recipients of asset transfers that made residents ineligible for Medicaid
- Established, for the first time in New Hampshire, enterprise zones that form the basis of tax credits for businesses
- Quadrupled the state's cap on net operating loss
